Today Vince and I had the privilege to run a workshop at the Faculty of Fine & Applied Arts at KKU (courtesy of Ajarn Duangjan). We had about 30 students learn catch-phrases on presenting their art work in English.
Such as:
“I’m here to present my work entitled ______.”
“It is inspired by _______.”
(I realised by now that anything more than 5 words long is a mouthful for them!).
Thank God at least for Vince! He was there to lead the games, break the ice with them and translate some of the English sentences.
We also managed to present a Christian song Psalm 139 and got the kids to sing along (my singing was off-key in some places!).
The lamentable thing about it, besides the miserable one hour we had together, was that the students were hardly interactive. And their level of comprehension was the lowest out of all the faculties I’ve been exposed to…

First of all, sorry for my long hiatus away. Been busy with teaching English (really!).
Anyway this post is just for laughs. Saw a couple of signs in English that really made me snigger…

For a sports club that charges approx S$5 per entry, they should do a better job in communicating...

Strange as this sounds, I am really excited over my new buys. Lots of them too.
And no, they are not what you would expect.
Not new machines/ iPhones/ girly gadgets.
Instead they are my English teaching aids. Books on teaching phonics. Magnets of words and letters. Books with wheels that you can spin and pair consonants with endings consonants (oh, the thrill of it!!). Lots of easy readers for beginners. And of course, my Star Player “Spelling Made Easy”, which comes with reward stickers, flash cards with pictures, A-Word-A-Day cards, phonic chart etc etc. Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!
I could keep going literally.
Not ironically, no one else shares my enthusiasm :p
